I met Sandy while riding my bike to the sea wall in Ocean Beach. I was having some trouble with my tire rubbing on the fender. I stopped and stooped down to fix it when I heard a faint voice in the distance ask if everything was okay. I looked up and spotted her and her cute canine friend off in the corner of the local eatery. I went to her and engaged in conversation.
Sandy has been homeless for many years and told me she lost everything to paying off medical expenses from a car accident that left her unable to work. “My back is all titanium!” she said. I spent 4 years in the hospital back and forth. She was a kind, soft spoken lady in her late ’60’s who was just looking for some conversation and companionship. She told me she was hungry … and I had only a couple dollars in my pocket at the time. A scripture came to my mind about the lame beggar who expected something from Peter as he walked by: (Acts 3:6 “Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”) I took this as leading from the Holy Spirit and began to tell her about my cycling4jesus travels from Canada to the US and how God had used me countless times to pray with people.
I told her she can have a close relationship with God through Jesus Christ his son. She smiled and told me she has been a believer all her life. I told her that she could renew her relationship with Jesus and receive the “power from high”, the “infilling of the Holy Spirit” as Jesus has intended for all Christians. In the bible, Jesus told his disciples not to leave the upper room but wait for the Holy Spirit to come. He would guide them into all truth and righteousness. (Acts 1:4; John 16:12-15).
It wasn’t long ’til like a little child (Matthew 18:3), Sandy was eager to receive the “infilling of the Holy Spirit” as outlined in Mark 16:17-18 (KJV):
17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.
I led her in prayer and the Holy Ghost suddenly came upon her and immediately she began praying in her spiritual tongues language! Praise the Lord! A huge smile came over her face and her countenance changed! It was just like that.
She had joy for the first time she could remember she told me. (Galatians 5:22 ) I told her to trust Jesus with all her heart and pray without ceasing. (Proverbs 3:5-6) Pray first in English, then in the the Holy Spirit, with her new tongues language.
Ephesians 6:18 “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.” (New Living Translation)
Galatians 5:22 “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness…” (New Living Translation)
She thanked me over and over! She assured me that she will use her new spiritual gift of tongues each day and seek Jesus guidance. Praise Jesus!
Sandy has agreed to allow me to post her picture on my blog. She has asked for prayer for healing for her back and for favour with a landlord for a place to live. Thank you Saints!
